Landscape Design

Earthen Pathways is a landscape design consultancy founded by Adrian de Montfort based in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.  The practice is founded on principles of design excellence and attention to detail, informed by a sound knowledge of the characteristics and qualities of materials and plants.

Adrian is an award winning horticulturalist with who graduated from Nova Scotia Community College with a Diploma in Horticulture graduating in 2008.  On Graduation, Adrian received the Landscape Nova Scotia “Horticultural Trades person of the year” and the Nova Scotia Rhododendron Societies “Passionate Plants person” awards.


Adrian's commissioned work ranges from small outdoor rooms to large estates and commercial projects.  Adrian is currently designing a Japanese contemplation garden for tea rooms in the Annapolis Valley a park for a community project on Long Island and a Japanese courtyard garden for a Provincial Hospital.


In April 2008, Adrian, together with his colleague Howie Wagner won the gold medal in the provincial Skills Canada Landscape competition (below) and went on to represent Nova Scotia at the National Finals in Calgary.

Current Services offered

We can provide a full landscape and garden design service from initial ideas to a finished garden. You can also commission us to undertake individual design or consultation projects as part of the overall process.
  • Consultation visit
    • The initial visit to your site and walk through to discuss your vision for your new or existing garden
  • Garden survey and preparation of survey plan
    •  Site analysis and survey including soil analysis and measurement where appropriate
  • Preparation of concept plan and presentation to client
  • Preparation of planting plan and plant list 
  • Product and plant sourcing
    • Plants can be sourced and recommended by Earthen Pathways and will come from local nurseries and suitable for our Maritime climate.
